The Princeton CarbonWorks Wake 6560 Evolution II wheelset is the absolute top model and aerodynamic flagship of Princeton CarbonWorks' road race collection. This sixth-generation wheelset has been developed specifically to be the very fastest, fully UCI-legal mass-start wheelset on the market. Where the Evolution I already pushed boundaries, the Evolution II goes a big step further with a completely revised carbon laminate and a significantly reduced rim weight. It is the ultimate choice for demanding racers, triathletes and fast road cyclists who want to combine aerodynamic dominance on flat and rolling terrain with feather-light climbing and acceleration.
The construction is based on a hand-built carbon rim with Princeton's iconic, sinusoidal wave profile that undulates between 60 mm and 65 mm in depth. What makes this Evolution II generation unique is that the rim has been fully optimised, through a new aerodynamic process and CFD analyses (using 3D-scanned tyre profiles), around the modern standard in the peloton: 28 mm wide road tyres. The internal width has been set at 22 mm and the maximum external width at no less than 33 mm. Thanks to a new carbon laminate, the bare rim weight has dropped from 470 grams to just 420 grams, while impact resistance remains extremely high at over 120 joules. Like the other top models, the wheel features a completely holeless, tapeless rim bed, making the construction stiffer and immediately 100% airtight for tubeless use without the need for vulnerable rim tape.
Features
-
Weight: An astonishing total weight that – depending on the chosen hubset – starts at just 1250 grams per pair (with Tactic Racing TR01 V2 hubs). This is an absolute breakthrough and unprecedentedly light for an aerodynamic wheelset with a rim depth of up to 65 mm.
-
Construction: Hand-built full carbon rim featuring Princeton's patented Radially Staggered Lacing pattern. This brings the drive-side spokes to the deepest rim sections, resulting in a flatter spoke angle, perfectly balanced spoke tension and superior lateral stiffness. Built as standard with feather-light Alpina Hyperlite Aero steel spokes (24 front and rear).
-
Rim profile: A sinusoidal, undulating aero profile (60 mm to 65 mm deep). This profile has been refined in the wind tunnel to such an extent that it keeps the airflow perfectly attached around the tyre, while drastically reducing crosswind sensitivity and steering forces.
-
Rim bed (Hooked): Equipped with a traditional hooked rim edge. Princeton deliberately opts for maximum safety and flexibility here, meaning there are no tyre restrictions or low maximum tyre pressures as with hookless competitors.
-
Tyre compatibility: Optimally designed for modern 28 mm tubeless and clincher road tyres, with the tyre blending seamlessly into the wide 33 mm rim edge for perfect airflow management. Safely compatible with tyre sizes from 23 mm to 32 mm.
-
Hub & Drive: Fully configurable to your wishes with six different top-class hub options, including the extremely reliable DT Swiss 180 / 240 EXP CL, Chris King R45D Ceramic, White Industries CLD or the ultra-high-end, feather-light Tactic Racing TR01/TR02 V2 hubs with pure ceramic bearings.
-
Axle system & Brakes: Specifically developed for modern disc brake road bikes and aero racers with a standard 12 x 100 mm front axle and 12 x 142 mm rear axle with a Center Lock disc rotor mount.
-
Cassette compatibility: Can be seamlessly matched to all modern electronic and mechanical 11- and 12-speed road groupsets and is readily available with a Shimano HG, SRAM XDR or Campagnolo freehub body.
-
Aesthetics & Extras: Available in 10 luxurious finishes (such as Matte Black, Gloss White, Chrome, Gold and exclusive colours such as Cobalt and Chameleon). The wheels are supplied as standard with pre-balanced tubeless valves and luxury padded wheel bags.
