The Princeton CarbonWorks Peak 4550 Evolution II wheelset is a performance-oriented, feather-light and aerodynamically superior premium carbon climbing wheelset from the very latest Evolution II generation. This wheelset has been developed specifically to be the absolute "King of the Mountain" for riders who want to perform at their best in the high mountains and on hilly terrain. The Evolution II version takes the renowned Peak line to an even higher level by making the rim wider for modern road racing, while further reducing the weight of the carbon structure.
The construction is based on a fully hand-built carbon rim with Princeton's distinctive sinusoidal aero profile that undulates between 45 mm and 50 mm in depth. What makes this Evolution II generation unique is that the internal width has been increased to 22 mm and the maximum external width to no less than 32 mm, while the bare rim weight has dropped to a feather-light 390 grams per rim. Like its predecessors, the wheelset features a completely holeless, tapeless rim bed. Because there are no spoke holes in the rim bed, the construction is lighter and stiffer. In addition, the wheel is immediately 100% airtight for tubeless use without the need for vulnerable rim tape.
Features
-
Weight: An extremely low total weight that – depending on the chosen hub configuration – starts at just 1200 grams per pair (with Tactic Racing TR01 hubs). This delivers an explosive and direct feeling of acceleration on steep gradients.
-
Construction: Hand-built full carbon rim featuring the patented Radially Staggered Lacing pattern for perfectly balanced spoke tension. Built as standard with feather-light Alpina Hyperlite steel spokes and Sapim SecureLock aluminium nipples for maximum reliability.
-
Rim profile: A wave profile perfected in the wind tunnel with a variable depth of 45 mm to 50 mm, providing unprecedented stability in unpredictable gusts on fast descents.
-
Rim bed (Hooked): Equipped with a traditional hooked rim edge. Princeton firmly believes in the safety and versatility of hooked rims for the road, meaning there are no tyre pressure restrictions or strict approved tyre lists as with hookless rims.
-
Tyre compatibility: Optimally designed for modern tubeless and clincher road tyres. Thanks to the wider 32 mm external diameter, modern 28 mm tyres sit perfectly flush with the rim aerodynamically and mechanically.
-
Hub & Drive: Fully configurable to your wishes with various ultra-high-end hubs, such as the DT Swiss 180 / 240 EXP, Chris King R45D Ceramic, White Industries CLD or the feather-light Tactic Racing TR01/TR02 hubs.
-
Axle system & Brakes: Specifically developed for modern disc brake road bikes with standard 12 x 100 mm front and 12 x 142 mm rear thru axles and a Center Lock disc rotor mount (a specific rim brake version is also available).
-
Cassette compatibility: Universally compatible with the latest 11- and 12-speed road groupsets and available with a Shimano HG, SRAM XDR or Campagnolo freehub body.
-
Aesthetics: Available in the 10 distinctive, luxurious Princeton CarbonWorks finishes, including Matte/Gloss Black, Chrome, Gold and the eye-catching Chameleon colourway. Supplied as standard with pre-balanced tubeless valves and luxury padded wheel bags.
