Princeton Dual 5550 Evolution Disc Wheelset

The Princeton CarbonWorks Dual 5550 (and the latest Dual 5550 Evolution) wheelset is a performance-oriented, extremely versatile and aerodynamic premium carbon all-road and gravel wheelset from the absolute top segment. This wheelset was originally developed in direct collaboration with Team INEOS Grenadiers to dominate the legendary and gruelling cobbled sectors of Paris-Roubaix. The result is a "do-it-all" wheelset that perfectly bridges the gap between pure road race aerodynamics and the brute robustness needed for unpaved roads and gravel sectors.

The construction is based on a hand-built carbon rim with Princeton's iconic sinusoidal wave profile that undulates between 50 mm and 55 mm in depth. Where the very first generation had a 22 mm internal width, the newer Evolution version takes this to a modern 24 mm internal width (with a 31.5 mm external width), specifically optimised to give wider tyres extra stability and volume. As with Princeton's other top models, the rim features a completely holeless, tapeless rim bed. Because there are no spoke holes in the rim bed, the rim is lighter and stiffer, and immediately 100% airtight for tubeless use without you ever having to wrestle with rim tape.

Features

  • Weight: A very competitive total weight that – depending on the chosen hubset – starts at just 1388 grams per pair (with Tactic Racing TR01 hubs). Even with a traditional, more robust hub, the set stays at around 1450 to 1580 grams.
  • Construction: Fully hand-built carbon rim featuring Princeton's patented Radially Staggered Lacing. Built as standard with high-quality, aerodynamic Sapim CX-Ray spokes and Sapim SecureLock nipples for a superb spoke tension balance and maximum stiffness under heavy loads.
  • Rim profile: A sinusoidal, undulating aero profile (50 mm to 55 mm deep), designed in the wind tunnel to guide the airflow perfectly around wider tyres and drastically reduce crosswind sensitivity.
  • Rim bed (Hooked): Equipped with a traditional hooked rim edge. This gives you as a rider complete freedom to choose between the latest tubeless (gravel) tyres or traditional folding tyres with an inner tube, without strict tyre restrictions or low maximum tyre pressures.
  • Tyre compatibility: Fully optimised aerodynamically and mechanically for modern 30 mm to 32 mm all-road tyres. However, the rim is extremely versatile and performs flawlessly with tyre widths from 28 mm (for pure tarmac) up to 50 mm (for rough gravel tracks).
  • Hub & Drive: Fully configurable to your wishes with various premium hub options, including the DT Swiss 180 / 240 EXP CL, Chris King R45D Ceramic, White Industries CLD or the ultra-high-end, feather-light Tactic Racing TR01/TR02 hubs with ceramic bearings.
  • Axle system & Brakes: Specifically developed for modern disc brake systems with a standard 12 x 100 mm front axle and 12 x 142 mm rear axle with Center Lock disc rotor mount (although a specific rim brake version is also available for enthusiasts).
  • Cassette compatibility: Can be seamlessly matched to all modern electronic and mechanical groupsets and is readily available with a Shimano HG, SRAM XDR or Campagnolo freehub body.
  • Aesthetics & Extras: Available in all 10 distinctive Princeton CarbonWorks colours (such as Matte Black, Gloss Chrome, Gold or Matte Bronze). The wheelset is supplied as standard with two luxury padded wheel bags and high-quality tubeless valves.
